Karine Jean-Pierre Appointed White House Press Secretary

Karine Jean-Pierre has been named the next White House press secretary, making her the first Black woman and openly LGBTQ+ person in the role.

President Joe Biden named her on Thursday. Jean-Pierre has been his principal deputy press secretary since Inauguration Day.

“Karine not only brings the experience, talent and integrity needed for this difficult job, but she will continue to lead the way in communicating about the work of the Biden-Harris administration on behalf of the American people,” Biden said in a statement.

In the past, Jean-Pierre has been the chief public affairs officer of progressive group and was a political analyst for NBC and MSNBC. She worked in political affairs in the Obama White House and on his reelection campaign.

Jean-Pierre will take the place of Jen Psaki, who will step down next week.
