Industry star Marisa Abela has joined the cast of Greta Gerwig’s live-action Barbie, becoming the latest performer to join the impressive ensemble.
Actress Marisa Abela has boarded the cast of the live-action Barbie movie. Based on Mattel’s beloved fashion doll line, the WB film is being helmed by Oscar-nominated director Greta Gerwig. Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling star as Barbie and Ken, respectively. Set for release in July 2023, Barbie is currently in production. While there are a myriad of reasons to look forward to Barbie, its stellar ensemble is likely the most prominent one. Besides Robbie and Gosling, the movie also stars America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, Kate McKinnon, Michael Cera, and Will Ferrell, among others. And it seems that the cast continues to grow even now.
As confirmed by Deadline, Abela is the latest to join Barbie. As with all the other performers, details of her role are not being disclosed at this point. Abela is best known for her role on HBO’s Industry; she will next be seen in this summer’s season 2. Barbie marks her biggest project yet.
With so few details being revealed about the plot, it’s hard to determine what character Abela might be playing in Barbie. Her new co-star Emma Mackey recently seemed to confirm the rumor that Barbie features multiple Barbies and Kens, so it is possible that Abela might play an alternate version of the titular doll. Another possibility is that Abela’s character is evil, and that she serves Ferrell’s rumored villain. Of course, everything is speculation now, but hopefully new Barbie details will emerge soon.
