Paul Rudd’s Wife Would Have Chosen Keanu Reeves for Sexiest Man Alive

People named Paul Rudd 2021’s Sexiest Man Alive; however, the actor’s wife would have voted for Keanu Reeves if she had the opportunity.

While promoting his new film, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Paul Rudd joked that his wife would have preferred Keanu Reeves be named this year’s Sexiest Man Alive. People granted Rudd the title instead; he joins the likes of Michael B. Jordan, Idris Elba, Ryan Reynolds, and other A-listers who have graced the cover of the Sexiest Man Alive issue throughout the years. In 2015, People‘s editorial director retroactively named Reeves the Sexiest Man Alive of 1994 because the magazine didn’t grant the title that year. However, Reeves has yet to appear on the cover of the Sexiest Man Alive issue.

Both Rudd and Reeves have had successful acting careers spanning more than two decades. Some of Rudd’s notable works include Clueless, Friends, and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. He is also a key part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe because of his role as Ant-Man. Reeves has plenty of experience with film franchises as well. For example, he stars as Neo in The Matrix movies; he also plays the titular role in the John Wick franchise.

Rudd recently hit the red carpet for the New York City premiere of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, where he admitted to Extra that his wife, Julie, would have voted for Reeves to be 2021’s Sexiest Man Alive. “Come on, he’s Keanu, I’d vote for him,” Rudd replied when asked for an explanation. Rudd has maintained a humble sense of humor regarding his position as the Sexiest Man Alive since Stephen Colbert announced the news earlier this month, but Rudd’s wife was actually quite supportive of her husband’s new title. “But you know she was very sweet about it. After some giggling and shock, she said, ‘Oh, they got it right,’” Rudd told People.

Rudd’s humility and humor likely played a large role in his selection. His ability to defy the laws of aging couldn’t have hurt either. Reeves has similarly aged very gracefully and is known for his kindness. Before Oscar winner Octavia Spencer became a star, Reeves was the only person to stop and help her with her broken-down car on the side of the road once.

Millions of other people around the world are also huge fans of Reeves, and many would vote for him to finally pose for the cover of the Sexiest Man Alive issue. If Reeves were to be selected in the future, he wouldn’t be the first man to receive the title twice; Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Johnny Depp, and Richard Gere have all made the cover more than once. Although, Reeves probably doesn’t care too much about whether he is chosen as the Sexiest Man Alive again; he’s most likely more focused on his upcoming projects, including John Wick: Chapter 5.
